International Association for the History of Religions

The International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR) is a worldwide body of national and regional member and affiliate associations and societies dedicated to the academic study of religion. The IAHR seeks to promote the activities of all scholars, member and affiliate associations and societies contributing to the historical, social, and comparative study of religion. The IAHR was founded in 1950 at the 7th International Congress for the History of Religions in Amsterdam. Since then, the IAHR has grown to over 50 national and regional member associations and affiliated societies, reflecting the international and global character and scope of the association.

Institute of Religious Studies, Jagiellonian University in Kraków

Established in 1974, the Institute of Religious Studies is a leading Polish research-teaching unit dedicated to the academic study of religion. With its faculty’s expertise spanning a broad range of methodological and theoretical approaches as well as a variety of historical periods and geographical locations, the Institute of Religious Studies investigates diverse religious phenomena in an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, and comparative framework.

Centre for Comparative Studies of Civilisations, Jagiellonian University in Kraków

The Centre for Comparative Studies of Civilisations is one of the few teaching-research units of its type in the world and the only one in Poland. It combines an interdisciplinary approach with knowledge of oriental languages, classical traditions of historical and archaeological research, as well as a modern, multidimensional approach to contemporary cultural phenomena. The Centre for Comparative Studies of Civilisations investigates the cultural variety of institutional, expressive, and communicational forms as manifested by representatives of particular civilisational circles.

Polish Society for the Study of Religions

The Polish Society for the Study of Religions was established in 1958, bringing together Polish researchers interested in religious studies and similar academic disciplines. The mission of the society is to create and to develop knowledge about religious studies. Since 1960, the Polish Society for the Study of Religions has been publishing a peer-reviewed journal “The Religious Studies Review”. The society joined the International Association for the History of Religions in 1970 and has been a member of the European Association for the Study of Religions since 2001.
